Murray examines thoughtfully what it means to have a "Covenant God," in effect, what it means to live in covenant with a God who has sworn faithfully to fulfill every promise He has given. "As long as we expect God to do for us what we ask or think," writes Murray, "we limit Him."

Andrew Murray (1828-1917) is best remembered for his devotional writings and his career as a missionary leader.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Murray was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Ordained in 1848, he went on to serve pastorates in South Africa and was one of the chief promoters of the call to missions in that country.

Murray places great emphasis on the need for personal devotions. Of his more than two hundred publications, many deal with the effect of devotions on the life of a Christian.
