THE SPIRITUAL MASTERS SERIES
A basic library of short classics and anthologies from the simple yet profound teachings of the greatest mystics, hopeful companions for every seeker interested in meditation and the spiritual quest.
The Spiritual Combat (which first appeared in Venice in 1589) is known as one of the greatest classics in Catholic Spirituality. Though there is some doubt as to its real author, most scholars consider it to have been written by the Italian Theatine, Lawrence Scupoli.
St. Francis de Sales called it "the golden book" and "the favorite, the dear book." The great spiritual master carried a copy of it with him for eighteen years and read from it every day.
The purpose of the book is to lead the seeker to the summit of spiritual perfection. It is a practical book which takes its title from its description of the interior life as a struggle against those destructive inclinations which hinder the seeker from abandonment to the love of God.
