Remember the Poor

In gratitude and respect, El Salvador's legislative assembly stood when John and Lois Bueno walked to the front of the auditorium as they were named "Noble Friends of El Salvador." The award is the highest honor the Congress can bestow on a civilian, similar to the Congressional Gold Medal the United States bestowed on Billy Graham in 1996.

When the Buenos arrived in El Salvador in 1961, they never dreamed their work would one day touch an entire nation.

In 1963 John took a step of faith and started a school in the church. Three makeshift classrooms were filled with tables and benches made from used lumber. Eighty-one children were divided among six grades. Eventually an entire school system developed. Its 39 schools have served more than 700,000 students in its 43 years.

Remember the Poor offers both insight and wisdom from a missionary statesman compelled by the compassion of our Lord. His perseverance has translated that compassion into action that has affected countless lives for eternity.
